The Beauty of a Helping Hand (and Breast!)

As we come to the end of World Breastfeeding Week, this story is the perfect way to highlight the ends mothers will go to in order to support their children and each other.

Eva van Dok Pinkley’s story is an excellent example of how women working together can face extreme adversity and overcome the odds. Eva not only became pregnant after a double mastectomy, but is also able to nourish her baby with breast milk thanks to the generous donations of other mothers.

The BC Women’s Milk Bank provides a similar service, providing donated breast milk to babies of mothers who are not able to provide their own. It is currently the only bank of its kind in Canada.

Please visit the breast health section of our website regularly. It is currently being updated with useful information, tips, and resources for breast-feeding women, general post-pubertal breast health, and breast cancer prevention and care.
