Making Babies

I’d like to share some words about a fantastic new book called “Making Babies: A proven 3-month program for maximum fertility” by Sami S. David, MD and Jill Blakeway, LAc.  It is a new addition to the Elements of Health Centre’s lending library and is one to consider adding to your own collection so that you can have these great tips and info on hand for easy reference.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has recommended throughout its history of use (over 2000 years) that the 3 months prior to conceiving is a crucial time to optimize health and harmonize your body – much the same as you would “cultivate the soil before you plant a seed”.  This ancient wisdom has been confirmed by western medicine and we now know that it takes 90-100 days for both sperm and eggs to develop.

The authors of Making Babies combine the very best of both eastern and western knowledge for maximizing fertility. They offer many suggestions you can easily incorporate yourself, with simple dietary and lifestyle modifications.

If you are trying to conceive, do have a read through the book and take a moment to watch this video interview with the authors.  Earlier this month a colleague of mine, Lorne Brown, hosted an interactive webinar with author Jill Blakeway and I am pleased to be able to share this excellent resource with you as well.

Special note: Dr. Sami David (MD) is very outspoken with his criticism of many fertility clinics in the United States and what he sees as “poor practice” in the first chapter of this book.  In my 10 years of experience with providing TCM fertility care, most of these are not relevant for patients in Victoria.  The OBGYN’s and the fertility clinic in Victoria stand up to most of those criticisms and I am proud to work alongside and in partnership with the physicians in our community.
