Inspiration and gratitude

This week is Organ Donor Awareness Week and its launch is a cause very close to my heart.  I have written before about my very dear friend, Paul Underhill, who has cystic fibrosis and received a double lung transplant.  Yesterday marked the one year anniversary of Paul receiving the gift that saved his life.

The Year of the Dragon - the first day of the Chinese Astrology Year - begins today on January 23rd.  In China, the celebrations are known as the Spring Festival, a 15-day-long observance that includes feasts, family reunions, the conspicuous use of the colour red and culminates on the final day with a lantern festival.

Tibetan Deliciousness

It feels like such a treat when this happens in Victoria.....I found a new restaurant to enjoy!  I had the most delicious lunch today at the Tibetan Kitchen,  a lovely restaurant on Broughton St between Fort and Broad.  I spoke with the owner's daughter and I don't know how I've missed this delightful spot, but they have been open for just over 2 years.  I enjoyed my meal so much that I wanted to help spread the word about this little gem.

Becoming a Locavore

Food just gets me excited these days.  Over the past year, I've really become more and more interested in seeking out local food sources and choosing to eat at restaurants that make this a focus on their menus as well.  It supports local business, reduces our carbon footprint (why eat berries from California when they are in season right here, right now?) and it just tastes better!

Yoga In The Park

Once again, Victoria Community Health Co-operative will be offering Yoga in the Park in beautiful Beacon Hill Park this summer. Beginner to Intermediate Hatha Yoga amidst the trees and under the sky, these drop in classes are open to all and will take place Thursdays from 5:30 - 7:00 pm beginning on July 7th and finishing in the second week of September.

Great Strides

Many of you may know from previous posts and from me telling stories during treatments, that Chris and I have a very dear friend who had a double lung transplant 6 weeks ago.  Today is the annual Great Strides Walk and groups of supporters will be gathered across the country to help fundraise and to bring awareness about cystic fibrosis.

Chinese Astrology and the Royal Wedding

Ahhhh. Everyone loves a wedding! More than that everyone loves analyzing a wedding and taking bets on how long it will last. According to Chinese Astrology every person is born into several astrological animals and elements based on the year, month, day, and time they were born. Similar to western astrology, a person’s life can be forecasted and their relationship compatibility measured based on the stars alignment at the time of their birth. 

Organ Donor Awareness Week

April 17-25 is Organ Donor Awareness Week and this is a cause that is very close to our hearts.  We have a very dear friend with cystic fibrosis who has recently been transferred to a Toronto hospital in the hopes of increasing the odds of receiving a new pair of (donor) lungs as soon as possible.

One of the many things I love about my job is that I have the privilege of meeting and working with so many amazing women.  As I think about the importance of Women's Day and of how to I'd like to acknowledge it in my life, my heart wells with gratitude remembering all the beautiful women I have met in my practise over the years and what a gift it has been in my life.
